The Rockettes hit 1st Mariner Arena

Well it’s officially December which means a lot of fun holiday events will be happening this month.

I personally recommend going to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at 1st Mariner Arena this season.  I went last year, and I left there wanting to be a Rockette (after all I do fit the height requirement).

Wow a whole year later and I never pursued that, oh well.  You should still treat yourself and a loved one to see those who have turned their dream into reality by dancing with The Rockettes.

It’s a great show, family friendly, and really puts you in the holiday spirit.

There are still tickets to the afternoon and evening shows on Dec. 17.  Prices run from $25-$99 before the additional fees.

Choreography: “Pokerface”- Daughtry

A little something I just started working on…

Dancer & Choreographer: Katie Hopper (Me).

Song: “Pokerface” (Lady Gaga cover) by Daughtry.

Studio: Baltimore Dance Center.

Dance winners for Baltimore’s Got Talent

Everyone who performed last night should be proud.  It was a great show and Baltimore definitely has talent.

But there can be only one winner (for each category that is). Drumroll please…

In the 17 and under category: Jason Kidd, member of the Baltimore Danceattack representing Baltimore Dance Center.

In the 18 and over category:

Joshua Page (J. Beatz) and Jermaine Melvin (Platinum J), also members of the Baltimore Danceattack representing Baltimore Dance Center.
Platinum J and J. Beatz freestyle:

Jason Kidd & J. Beatz:

Congrats guys. I personally have the privilege of dancing with these three.  If you’d like to take class with Platinum or Josh they are also instructors at Baltimore Dance Center.

Or if you are interested in any classes at the studio, booking  or joining Baltimore Danceattack, you can contact the owner/director, Shannon “S Funk” Salemi at 410-574-2444 or mrssfunk@comcast.net.

Dancers fail to audition for Baltimore’s Got Talent

Baltimore’s Got Talent fell short in the dance category.

“Honestly I am very shocked at the lack of dancer turnout,” said Dinesh Ramlogan, Brown Entertainment host, event coordinator and creator of Baltimore’s Got Talent.  “Brown Entertainment called almost all of the dance studios in the Baltimore Metro area to offer them the opportunity to participate in auditions. We were mostly greeted negatively when we told them about our talent show.”

The event this Saturday will only be able to showcase both five youth dance acts and five adult dance acts.  This is compared to the 10 singing adult acts that will be competing against each other.

Why is it only 5 acts came out for an opportunity to win $1,000?

“It is the first year and people are not quite sure what to expect,” said Jenny Aries, mother of  youth contestant Veronica Ramirez.  “People always want to see what happens first before they commit to something new.”

What do you think? Why didn’t you take the chance?

Baltimore’s Got Talent finale Nov. 21

“Baltimore definitely has talent and we are blessed to be able to showcase this during the finale,” said event coordinator Amy Ramlogan.

Get your tickets now.  Once the 860 seats are sold the show will be sold out.

Admission is $20 each and can be purchased at missiontix.

Veronica’s audition

SDC10898One of my students, Veronica Ramirez, auditioned for Baltimore’s Got Talent tonight.  Instead of just supporting her I decided to film her for the public to see.

She told me she hadn’t been able to sleep for the past two nights because she was so worried about the audition.

Watching the video you’d never be able to tell she was nervous.  Veronica rocked her dance (choreographed by Shannon Salemi).

If she wins the youth section of the competition she is looking at a prize of $500.  You’ll be suprised to hear what she plans to do with the money.

For only eight years old, Veronica has a very bright dance future ahead of her and I am excited to see her grow even more in the years to come.

Check her out.  Think she has talent?

Update: Verionica made it to the finale.

Boom Boom Pow Combo

Here it is…not the greatest video but there will be more to come shortly.  From left to right are Katie Hopper (me), Katie Dobry and Josh Page all from Baltimore Danceattack practicing a combination to “Boom Boom Pow”.

Thrill the World this Halloween

thriller460-thumb-475x309So you think you can dance?  Well, you don’t really need to be able to!

Dance Baltimore is reaching out to gain the most amount of people for their tribute to Michael Jackson in “Thrill the World” on October 24, 8:30 p.m. at Harborplace.

I can’t think of a better dance out there to join in on the fun and get freaky with in October other than Thriller.

“Dance Baltimore is joining with organizations across the globe to break into the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest performance of one dance by the most people at the same time,” according to the website.

Dance Baltimore will teach the famous dance from the video in two more classes at  Eubie Blake Cultural Center  on 847 North Howard Street.  Don’t miss out on these chances to learn the moves of good ol’ MJ.

One is today, Wednesday, October 14, from 6:00-7:30 p.m and is free for new students.  The next class is next Tuesday, October 20th, and is only five dollars.

If you can’t make these two days, you are able to make a seperate and private lesson for $75.  You will need to give a two day advance notice.

Reserve a spot today to be festive and dress up like a zombie.  It’s also a great chance to help break a record in the dance world.

Side note: Baltimore’s Got Talent requested that my dance company perform to Thriller when we open for them in November.  MJ you really have inspired dancers everywhere.

Baltimore’s Got Talent extends audition and category

Missed the audition for Baltimore’s Got Talent?  Don’t worry you still have a shot!

Since it seems like everyone is coming down with the flu, there will be another day added to the list.   It’s this Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m at the Senator.

Not 18 yet?

There was a large response of parents who wanted their children to have a chance- so now, with parental consent, the kids have their time to shine.

“We are also going to extend it to another category for kids under 18 years of age with a $500 cash prize.   Their category will be a talent category – they can do whatever their talent is – sing, dance, magician, poetry etc…” said Amy Ramlogan.

So whether you were sick, are under 18, or just missed the audition, take your medicine and clear your schedules for this Saturday.  Come out and show just how talented you really are.

Update: Pre-register to get a time slot and audition number.   Send an e-mail to bmoresgottalent@gmail.com or contact Brown Entertainment at 443-220-5174.  You will need an audition number to get seen and spots are filling up quick!
