Mia Michaels leaves SYTYCD?

miamichaels2editTwitter has me thinking so at least.

Mia Michaels posted a tweet yesterday that read “I AM OFFICIALLY AN ADORING FAN OF SYTYCD….THANK U FOR 5 WONDERFUL YRS.”

She then posted two more all within the same hour that read “TO CREATE MOMENTS AND MOVEMENT FOR THE WORLD TO SHARE WITH ME WAS A GIFT…..” and “THANKS SYTYCD AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME…LOOKOUT WORLD!!!!!”

Apparently, she announced this as well on her Facebook page yesterday saying that “Today was my official resignation of the U.S. show.”

Michaels won two Emmys for choreography on the show.  The first was for “Calling You” in 2007 and the second was for “Mercy” which she won this year.

What an unfortunate loss for SYTYCD.  Even though, there are other inspiring and moving choreographers out there who I’m sure can fill her place.  One possible woman in my book is Emily Shock, choreographer of Teddy Tedholm’s audition to “If It Kills Me” this year.

I wish the best of luck to Michaels (even though she doesn’t need it).  She had a good run on the show, made her name known to a lot more people, and even won awards.  It’s amazing the fame that comes from reality television these days.

Teddy Tedholm returns home

Well so much for that.  In case you missed it, Teddy Tedholm was sent home after his cha-cha performance.

He was such an early favorite and also recieved a lot of television exposure.  That confuses me.  Why push Tedholm onto America if we don’t even get the chance to vote for him?  I guess they’re hoping he returns.

Tedholm now holds the title as the least gangsta contestant on So You Think You Can Dance.  Which personally, I don’t think makes sense since he made it passed the hip hop round and did quite well?

Oh well, hopefully we see him next year.  His facebook last night said “the least ghetto competitoror in sytycd history… I’ll take it.”  At least he doesn’t seem to be offended.

Get your act together SYTYCD.

SYTYCD season 56?

No really it’s only season six.  They’re giving us a double dose this year, which I must say I can’t complain (only because I have DVR).

Yet, So You Think You Can Dance claims that they are out there looking for America’s favorite dancer.  They look for people that stand out and are unique.  So I wonder why every season it seems that a contemporary dancer is almost always the winner.   Maybe it is because they have been able to pick up the other styles in the short amount of time given.

Or maybe it’s because they’re technique is so ridiculously compelling that it really doesn’t matter.  Except season two when Travis Wall got  stuck with second place.  Hopefully America felt dumb when his piece last season rocked the stage.  At least the show proved it can give great exposure for amazing talent.

Also for eh, not so amazing talent. The audition part of of the show makes a mockery out of dance.  Yes, it is a television show and FOX wants as many viewers as possible.  Personally I’ve never enjoyed watching bad dancing, ever.  I can’t imagine people who love the art would actually like seeing people who “think” they can dance get on the stage.

Why SYTYCD even wastes their time on people who aren’t in the age range or are obviously terrible is beyond me.

My first thought was okay, you look like Travis Wall and you’re using a song that he choreographed to on the show for your audition.  You might have just killed your chances.

My second thought was you instantly captured me with your uniqueness. Oh, that and I love you. Please be able to do other styles.

Tedholm’s Facebook says “[I] think dance is like mashed potatoes. [It] can be creamy or lumpy or somewhere in between… but [I] love it all almost as much as [I] love making it.”

Unfortunately, Tedholm isn’t allowed to speak with the press.  Make sure to check him out on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.

Ps. Your mother really named you Teddy TEDholm?

Update: His name is Edward Tedholm. Teddy is a nickname.
