Mia Michaels may have shaved her head and left So You Think You Can Dance but she doesn’t have cancer and she is not finished in her dance career.
Instead, she is trying to focus on new projects that she has been presented with outside of SYTYCD.
“It’s been an amazing five-year journey and I am in a place where I have all these great opportunities that have been presented to me and I am ready to take on all these challenges,” Michaels told People.
The contemporary choreographer is currently in the hopeful process of turning one of her projects into a dance show of her own.
Typical. A choreographer gets some exposure that turns into an unexpected turn at fame then all of a sudden they are too good for where they came from.
“I knew in that moment and we had not even talked about contracts or anything for the new season yet, so I was just ready to move while I had all this other opportunities in front of me,” Michaels told People. “Before I got into the season with the dancers — you know actually getting into a room and creating on them — I just thought it was best for me to step out before I did that.”
Sure, there is certaintly more to dance than reality television. But, knowing how many fans she has developed over the years and dancers she has inspired, I think she could have left in a better fashion.
With that said, I’m curious to see how this season unfolds without Michaels. I’m also anxious to see what will make her dance show different than any other attempted show that failed in competition to SYTYCD.
What do you think?
