One of the dances that Baltimore Dance Center is competing with this year is called “All a nightmare”.  Little did the coach or the dancers know that the title would become true for them.  Katie Dobry, choreographer and coach of the team was instantly worried and frightened for her students when the music turned to silence.

“When my team was competing at the Hall of Fame competition and the music stopped in the middle of the piece I was absolutely devastated.  Tears instantly came to my eyes and I was very upset but they held it together and completely finished the piece pretty much in unison.”

Having a malfunction in the middle of a performance is a fear for any performer.

If not prepared for the worst, a shocked dancer may instantly freeze on stage.  One of the dancers, Deja Duncan, says that she was worried when the music stopped but happy with the outcome.

“I was really really nervous and one of our dancers stopped but we kept on going, and we pulled it off, we did great and I was very proud of our team.”

The coach and the dancers left Goucher Saturday night very proud of their accomplishment.  Dancer Julianna Darpino says she was glad to have the experience.

“After we performed we all felt really confident as a team.  We were just really proud of ourselves because we finished the dance and didn’t stop and everyone complimented us about it.”

Baltimore Dance Center took home first place platinum and the showmanship award for “All a nightmare.”

The team is thrilled with their performance and ready for their next competition in May.
