Hall of Fame Dance Challenge was canceled due to to the record-breaking snow storm that hit Maryland the weekend of Feb. 4-6.
It was called off the Thursday prior out of the safety of all of the dancers, teachers, judges that were traveling to the competition that was being held in Towson.
“I felt really bad [when the competition canceled] because we would’ve won,” youth competitor Veronica Ramirez said.
At only eight, Veronica’s confidence in her team and love of dance caused negative feelings toward the snow. The storm started Friday and continued into Saturday making it impossible for the dancers to be able to compete.
This was the first time in nine years that the competition had to be postponed due to inclement weather. However, Hall of Fame was able to book the same stage for a later date.
“It feels good to have time because we get to practice,” Ramirez said.
The snow gave the dancers extra rehearsal time to prepare to hit the stage and be ajudicated. Yet, a second storm came into town last Tuesday which kept schools and studios closed so the dancers haven’t been able to dance.
“I like that they get to practice more, but I honestly was looking forward to their performance,” mother Jenny Aries said.
While the competitors now have extra time it could also cause conflict for those that are headed to multiple competitions as Starpower Talent Competition will also be in Maryland.
Baltimore Dance Center, one of the competing studios, set out to participate in both Hall of Fame and Starpower but is now unable to because of this postponement.
The Towson competition is rescheduled for the weekend of March 26-28 at Goucher College. The studios that are unable to make it for this date will be reimbursed in full.
